Chimneys or flues need to allow the free passage of dangerous combustion gases. Regular sweeping of your chimney will not only eliminate the build-up of creosote and soot which would hinder this, potentially causing a hazardous chimney fire, but it will also help to keep your appliance or fire running to its optimum potential.

We offer a quick but more importantly clean service. Trevor has been trained by the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps and we follow their guidelines and practices in how we conduct ourselves and how we work. Also, because of our affiliation to the Guild, we are able to issue the customer with an insurance approved certificate after the chimney has been satisfactorily swept. In fact, some insurance companies insist on the householder having their chimney swept at least once a year. After sweeping we conduct a smoke test to check the chimney is drawing correctly.
Price list
Standard sweep of open fire or lined stove/logburner - £65.00
Standard sweep of unlined stove/logburner - £70.00
Sweep of large, inglenook fireplace - starting from £85.00
Sweep of multiple standard chimneys - £60.00 per chimney e.g. x3 = £180.00
You may find that your fire or appliance is less efficient than usual or that smoke is escaping back in to the room, or you may have discovered twigs or debris in the grate. The most common reason for this would be a blockage, possibly caused by a nest. If you leave these blockages in place, you run the risk of having a chimney fire or preventing the escape of deadly Carbon Monoxide.
We can remove the blockage with minimal disruption. Although removing nests can be time consuming we will ensure that all sticks and debris are removed and can also supply and fit a bird guard to the top of the chimney to prevent the problem reoccurring if requested.
Charge for nest removal:
Standard sweep charge plus £30 per half hour of time spent after first 1.25 hours
We always prefer to see just a pot at the top of a chimney as this obviously provides the least possible resistance to the movement of gases. There are some situations however, where a cowl or bird guard is required. For example, after removing a bird’s nest it may be advisable to fit a guard or if you are having down draught problems then a certain type of cowl may be the course of action. We can advise you on the correct choice and if you require, can also supply and fit it for you.
Price list
To supply and fit a fuel appropriate bird guard to an existing chimney pot - £150.00
To supply and fit other, more specific cowls - Please enquire
To supply and fit multiple bird guards, caps or cowls - Please enquire
If you have decided that you no longer wish to use your chimney it would be a good idea to cap it off.
The advantages of capping off a chimney are that birds and bees etc. cannot come into your home via your chimney or build a nest in there. There is also significant noise reduction and it severly reduces heat loss from your home.
The capping system I use allows for a small amount of draught through the chimney which reduces any risk of damp issues.
Ideally, the chimney would have one last clean before capping. This stops any potential issues with the soot left in the chimney such as damp or smell, even black marks appearing internally through your paintwork.
Price list
To supply and fit a cap to an existing chimney pot - £120.00
To supply and fit multiple caps - Please enquire
We often receive calls from customers who have had a bird or squirrel enter their chimney and become stuck. You might hear flapping or you may experience soot and debris coming down the chimney. Where possible, we do our best to offer an emergency call out service and will come and rescue the bird and release it back out into the outside world, hopefully unharmed from the experience.
We charge a £35.00 call out fee for simple, 30 minute or so rescues
Then, an additional £30 per half hour after the first 30 minutes.
Versa Clean can now offer chimney inspections using a CCTV camera system. This can uncover such issues as damaged liners, damaged mid-feathers and identifying blockages or other problems within the chimney. It is also useful after removing a bird's nest to ensure all the debris has been removed.
Prices for a chimney inspection start at £100.00
Many people think that Carbon Monoxide only comes from gas appliances but in fact any fuel that burns creates this deadly gas. Any appliance fitted after 1 October 2010 must have a CO alarm fitted in the same room but we highly recommend that a room should have an alarm fitted regardless of the appliance’s age. We can chat with you about where the alarm should be fitted, supply the alarm and also fit it for you if required.
Charge to supply a suitable CO alarm - From £25.00
We are able to resolve many issues regarding your chimney, flue and heating appliances. We offer professional advice on ventilation and correct flue sizing, which is often the cause of a poor drawing chimney.
Being a Guild registered sweep means Trevor can draw on the collective knowledge of the organisation, should the need arise.
